REINDEER FARM VISIT TOUR IN ROVANIEMI
We at Porohaka wish to introduce you to the tradition of reindeer herding. The group size of the travelers arriving to us is small. So we can offer you personal service and tell you in detail what reindeer herding is.
FEED REINDEER DURING REINDEER FARM VISIT
We welcome you with open arms! During the reindeer farm visit we will visit and feed our reindeer herd of as much as 100 reindeer! During the feeding the reindeer come very close so you will notice just how charming and wise they are.
ACTIVITIES AND LUNCH INCLUDED THE REINDEER FARM VISIT TOUR
In addition to feeding the reindeer, you are also warmly welcomed to our house! There we will enjoy a traditional Finnish meat soup for lunch. After the lunch we will continue to get a reindeer sleigh ride. At the end of the day we will enjoy warm beverages and local pastries by the fire in our Laplander´s hut.
TRANSPORTATION FROM ROVANIEMI CITY CENTER AND SANTA CLAUS VILLAGE
Transportation to reindeer farm visit tour place and back to Rovaniemi city center is possible for extra fee. Alternatively, you can also arrive to us with your own ride.
We want to make sure your visit to us is a once in a lifetime experience and our program is suitable for people of all ages. However, if you have any condition of reduced mobility or very small children travelling with you, we kindly ask you to contact us in advance so that we are able to make sure everything is safe and that the day is a success for everyone.

Description
The transportation leaves from Rovaniemi at 10.00 o´clock/10 am. The drive to our home is about one hour. After we arrive, we will check that everyone´s clothing is warm enough as we don´t want anyone to get cold. We kindly recommend that you dress warmly enough, but don´t worry, we have extra clothing for you if you need it!
The day begins with a visit to our reindeer farm. To get there, we will take a short snowmobile ride from our home with you sitting comfortably in a sleigh pulled by the snowmobile. After arriving to the reindeer farm, it is time to feed the reindeer. We will take the reindeer food with us on the sleigh and move inside the enclosure where the reindeer stay. In the enclosure the moving happens with a sleigh pulled by a snowmobile. You will get to sit on the sleigh and watch as the reindeer come close as we feed them. We will take a short stop halfway through the feeding, so that you have enough time to observe. Reindeer are friendly but naturally shy, so remember that our actions should be calm. We will spend about an hour in the reindeer enclosure.
After arriving back to our home, we will enjoy a traditional Finnish reindeer meat soup. We kindly ask you to inform us in advance if you have any allergies or if you wish to enjoy a vegetarian option. During the lunch we will also tell you more about reindeer herding.
After enjoying the lunch, we will have a reindeer sleigh ride! After preparing the reindeer, the ride can begin. You will get to sit warmly in a sleigh pulled by the reindeer as we travel through the beautiful forest. Our ride is as long as 2 kilometers long and takes about an hour!
The ride is held by an experienced and trustworthy reindeer herder. During the ride you will also have an opportunity to take pictures with the reindeer.
At the end of the day we will enjoy warm beverages by the fire in our Laplander´s hut. You will have the chance to ask questions and share your thoughts about the day.
The transportation back to Rovaniemi leaves approximately at 15.30 o´clock/ 3.30 pm, so that you will have plenty of time to participate in other activities when you get back to Rovaniemi.

Age limit for child is 5 years. For safety reasons, we do not recommend the trip for children under 5 years old.
Yesterday we visited Katja and her reindeer farm. The entire day couldn't have been nicer.
-Pickup/transportation went smoothly. (Distance from Rovaniemi approx. one hour; pick up around 10 a.m.)
-When we arrived at the farm, we were greeted very hospitably. A big plus point and a decisive factor for us when booking: small groups, no mass tourism! We were 9 people in total.
-First we were dressed (recommended because you have a lot to do with the animals and could possibly get dirty). We were then divided into 2 even smaller groups. One group drove with Katja and the snowmobile through the forest towards the reindeer enclosure to feed the female reindeer - it was unbelievable how beautifully the animals can live there. A true paradise.
The other group was allowed to start with the reindeer sleigh ride. Approximately 2km through a beautiful winter landscape, a unique experience. After half the route we stop briefly to take a few photos 🙂
We were told a lot of exciting things about the reindeer and how they are kept.
-Duration of feeding and reindeer sleigh ride each one hour. Afterwards we were invited to Katja's house for lunch (reindeer soup). We have rarely experienced so much hospitality on a trip, thank you very much! A very personal experience with such a small group.
After the lunch break, the two groups swapped and spent another hour with/with the reindeer.
At the end we met around the fire in the Finnish barbecue hut (Kota) for coffee/hot chocolate and homemade cake from Katja. We reviewed the day together and were picked up again around 4 p.m.
We can wholeheartedly recommend the trip.
The reindeer are in good hands with this great family. Thank you for everything!
One of the best parts was the peaceful location—tucked away in the middle of nature with no tourists in sight. It felt like a hidden gem! She spent quality time with the animals, patiently explaining everything and answering all our questions in detail.
As a lovely touch, she even offered us a small cake and hot chocolate, which made the experience even more special. If you’re looking for a unique, intimate, and truly authentic reindeer farm visit, we highly recommend this place!

We chose Porohaka Reindeer Farm because we were looking for an authentic experience away from the tourist crowds, and it did not disappoint. Katja provided a very personal experience where you could forget you’re a tourist. It was just our family with her, as she keeps the groups small, which made the entire visit feel relaxed and intimate.
Katja welcomed us warmly and ensured we were all well-prepared for the cold, providing extra layers where needed so that we could fully enjoy the experience in comfort. We then had a ride on a sleigh pulled by her snowmobile through the forest to the reindeer enclosure, the ride itself was a great experience in a wonderful setting.
The enclosure was large and once inside we could disembark and feed the reindeer in our own time. The reindeer themselves were wonderful—gentle, inquisitive, and happy to come up and be fed by us. There was no rush at all, just plenty of time to enjoy being with these beautiful animals in their peaceful surroundings. Katja provided lots of information about her family's history of reindeer farming and it was lovely chatting with her and learning more about the reindeer.
